Notice how other games' expansions have separated sell counts?

Please tell me the date that page of that site you are quoting was most reccently updated.
And actually, they aren't Cacheelma. The Sims and stuff includes expansions, it just also breaks it down further (ie, 14 million, 1 million of which are so and so).

If Wikipedia is to be believed, GW is the 11th best selling game of all time. And all people can say is that it hasn't sold as much as WOW and Lineage?
LOI (laughing on the inside)
Gratz to Anet.

LoL, i just have to register to say this, if you read properly, it says by genre, GW probably is not in the Computer role-playing game genre.
If you say Massively multiplayer online role-playing game, even WoW is not listed there due to Lineage 2, LoL try again, noob.

Look again (or look at the post below you), the Sims, for example, shipped 16 millions, but if you count the expansions too it would be 29 millions (second number).

Congrats to Anet.
This post might give some estimate of GW active population if the assumptions about the Xfire statistics are true.

As a normal computer RPG, it's been an awesome success. As an MMO, not so much (even though it's marketted as one :\ )

Funny thing is, the numbers are so variable.
For example, Half-Life 2. Probably the greatest SinglePlayer FPS of its time and years to come, right? Doom 3 is Right behind it in sales. When Doom 3 came out everyone in the world bought it, most of them were dissapointed.
You don't hear about doom 3 much anymore. It stole a good bit of sales from HL2 though.
Comparing WoW to GW is an epic dissaster saleswise.
GW could better be compared to Warcraft 3.
Why does WoW sell so much better? A few reasons actauly.
A. It had more hype than DOOM 3 and everyone who was willing to pay monthly for a game started planning on it years before release. (They also started convincing themselves it had good graphics.)
B. Everyone loved WC3
C. Everyone was looking for just a MMORPG with quality.
D. Popularity has a major impact.
E. WoW is a cult that sucks people in. (Most of them can stay there for all I care.)
F. Willam Shatner advertised for them. Thats right, Cpt. Kirk! The versy same guy who knocked out an alien with his back! With moves like that, for sure he can beat Chuck Norris!
Oh and G. it has a NUDE MOD! (If Anet lets this happen to us though, i'll drive over there and throw eggs at their windows.)

The $10 Prophecies also helped.

why do you need to remind, no one even so much as a hint that they thought it meant 5 million players in this thread. looks like another attempt at trolling
why do you spend so much time on these forums when you dont like the game?

The closest we've gotten so far is making the 15k Druid Female armor braless.
That said, two games that are tailored for entirely different audiences. That was one of the biggest problems with GW1, was that it had very little to offer as an MMO. As an RPG it had a lot and could keep you locked to your computer for a very long time. As long as they advertise the game for the right audience, GW2 will kick much more ass than GW1 ever could.
Also note that we're basing off copies sold (GW) to active accounts (WoW.) This isn't directed to you, but just a throw out in the air: If WoW is as bad as a game as everyone here says it is, imagine how many people had to have bought the game to hold onto 10million players D:!
And Doom 3 kicked ass, by the way. I was so tense, scared and nervous when I reached Delta Labs that I had to turn off my computer. Awesome times >: )

Guild Wars Tops Five Million Units Sold
Guild Wars franchise breaks major milestone in less than three years.
Tuesday 26th February/... Brighton, UK — NCsoft® Europe and ArenaNet® have announced that the Guild Wars® franchise of online roleplaying games has surpassed five million units sold in Europe, North America, and Asia.
Published by NCsoft and developed by ArenaNet, the Guild Wars franchise consists of the original Guild Wars, Guild Wars Factions™, Guild Wars Nightfall™, and the recently released expansion, Guild Wars: Eye of the North™. The Guild Wars games have been commercial and critical successes since the release of the original campaign in April of 2005. Its award-winning content and innovative subscription-free business model have created a large and loyal following that is highly anticipating Guild Wars® 2.
“Guild Wars is a proven success and has set a new standard for online RPG games with its unique business model and superior playability,” said NCsoft CEO Taek Jin Kim. “ArenaNet is dedicated to creating games that expand the market and provide great new content to our loyal player base. This success has built a great foundation from which the next generation of Guild Wars games will grow.”
With the development of Guild Wars 2 underway, ArenaNet will continue to provide dedicated support to current Guild Wars games and its millions of customers.
“Reaching the five million mark is extremely gratifying for us at ArenaNet because it shows the hard work and dedication we put into our games has resonated with the fans,” said Mike O’Brien, co-founder of ArenaNet. “We are committed to supporting all of our Guild Wars players, and at the same time, we’re extremely excited to work on the game’s evolution. Certainly the future of Guild Wars is as bright as its past and present.”
For more information on the Guild Wars franchise, visit the Guild Wars website at http://www.discoverguildwars.com. The award-winning Guild Wars series, including the recently released Guild Wars: Eye of the North, can be purchased from retailers or downloaded from the PlayNC store at http://eu.plaync.com/eu/store/.

Wasted first post though, imo, WNL - Sonya has proved many times before he/she/it is incredibly stupid
